JUSTINE BATEMAN

Writer, producer, director, and author Justine Bateman has an impressive resume in Entertainment that has earned her many accolades, including two Emmy nominations and a Golden Globe nomination.  

In 2021, she was named one of “22 Female Filmmakers to Watch” by IndieWire, one of InStyle’s “Badass 50,“ and one of Adweek’s “Trailblazers,” in reaction to Bateman’s film and literary work.

Bateman’s directorial feature film debut of her own script, VIOLET, stars Olivia Munn, Luke Bracey, and Justin Theroux. Its World Premiere was at the 2021 SXSW Film Festival and its International Premiere at the 2021 Toronto Film Festival. The film was released in October 2021 to much acclaim.  At the 2022 Cadet Film Awards, Bateman won Best Breakthrough Filmmaker and was nominated for Best Original Screenplay. Olivia Munn was nominated for Best Actress.  

FIVE MINUTES, the film short she wrote, directed, and produced, premiered at the 2017 Toronto Film Festival and was chosen by seven more festivals, including the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival. It was one of the winners of the 2019 Amazon Prime Video Direct Festival Stars Program and was chosen by both Short of the Week and Vimeo’s Staff Picks. Her second short, PUSH, is a drama, in which she also stars.

Her best-selling first book, FAME, a non-fiction about the life cycle of Fame and society’s strong need for it, was published in 2018 by Akashic Books. Her second book, FACE, is also a best seller. It’s about women’s faces getting older and why that makes people angry, and caused an enormous response from readers and the press. It was released April 2021 by Akashic. 

Her writing has been published by Dame Magazine, Salon.com, and McSweeney’s. An advocate for Net Neutrality, Justine has testified before the Senate Commerce Committee on its behalf in Washington DC and served as an Advisor to FreePress.com

In 2016, Justine earned her Computer Science and Digital Media Management degree from UCLA.

Bateman is currently in pre-production on the film adaptation of FACE. It will star Mary-Louise Parker, Carrie-Anne Moss, Isabelle Fuhrman, Liana Liberato, and many more.
